The Mask is a Dark Horse comic book series created by writer John Arcudi and artist Doug Mahnke, and based on a concept by publisher Mike Richardson. The series follows a magical mask which imbues the wearer with reality-bending powers and physical imperviousness, as well as bypassing the wearer's psychological inhibitions. It was adapted into the 1994 film The Mask. The Mask (or the Mask of Loki in the film) is an object surrounded by darkness an mystery. No one knows who made it, or why it even exists in the first place. It is uncontrollable, and it unleashes something equally uncontrollable on the wearers.

The Turrets are not only important testing track obstacles, but are also used to protect restricted areas of the facility as well as in the testing of Military Androids and the Portal Device.

Combine Sentry Guns, referred by Overwatch as sterilizers and turrets by Rebels, are fully autonomous tripodal pulse weapons used by the Combine to guard choke points and vital areas. Turrets are one of the many human technologies adapted by the Combine for their own use after the Seven Hour War. The guns are often deployed as static defenses, used to guard areas that are infrequently patrolled, or as a means to supplement a larger defense network. The guns are fitted with small handles and are light enough to pick up and place by hand.

The Hazardous Environment Combat Unit Sentry Gun, commonly referred to as the HECU Sentry Gun, is a fully autonomous weapon featured in Half-Life and its expansions. Sentry Guns are commonly used by the HECU and Black Ops to guard chokepoints and vital areas. The gun consists of a powerful machine gun built onto a tripod. The gun itself rests on a turntable mechanism of sorts on the top of the tripod, which allows it to rotate and fire in any direction, unlike the equivalent device in Half-Life 2, which has a narrow field of fire.
Охранная турель или просто турель — автоматическая пулеметная платформа, впервые представленная в Half-Life. Используется данная турель солдатами HECU и чёрными оперативниками для защиты коридоров и прочих мест. Является предшественником пулемета Альянса. Турель представляет собой восьмиствольный пулемет системы Гатлинга, установленный на мощном штативе. Благодаря установленному поворотному механизму, пулемет может вращаться на 360 градусов.
